Of ballrooms and wedding mags

I wish I had more time to write but I’ve been so caught up with the wedding venue-sourcing and catching up with friends over dinners after work. By the time I’m showered, it’s usually past 11 and staring at the laptop is the last thing I’d want to do.

We have narrowed down on a few dates with his folks but will probably need some time to finalise the venue. I can’t believe so many hotel ballrooms are either booked or tentatively booked all the way till early 2013. (I thought one year was sufficient but it seems the standard now is to book your venue one and a half to two years in advance!)

We have also done up up the first cut of the guest list and worked out the initial budget. It’s turning out to be bigger than we thought. Think we can’t make anymore new friends until after the wedding. Haha.

With all that, I figured I should also do some research on my own, especially when I have such specific ideas of how I wanted my gown to look like. Almost everything I need to know can actually be found online (blogs, forums, bridal websites, etc.) so technically, there is no need for bridal magazines. But nothing online beats flipping the glossy pages of a magazine, right? And now that I have license to look at (and buy) frou-frou magazines, I decided I would get one just for the heck of it.

The compilation of local bridal studios and wedding gown, hairstyle and make-up lookbook turned out to be very useful. It even had a section on “real weddings” where we spotted our friends, C & L, who just got married recently! Pretty cool!

Anyway, as of now, we have meeting with a photographer scheduled for Friday and three back-to-back site visits on Saturday. Busy weekend ahead.

Hope we can finalise the venue soon.
